Creating a portfolio Northern Lights image from a remote mountain section in the Lofoten Islands
The midnight sun has returned to the Lofoten Islands. After a long and dark winter, it feels great to have long and bright days again. Though, the never-ending light means there’s a lack of sleep!
While the well-known locations are popular for a reason, I've been more drawn towards the no-name landscapes and dramatic atmosphere that describes the island. In this miniseries, the mysterious atmosphere is exactly what I've focused on.
I can’t believe that another year is over. Just like that. It felt like 2018 passed by in a blink. This has been a very exciting year for me where I’ve been able to keep expanding my business CaptureLandscapes, meeting new like-minded people, explore new terretories and spend a big portion of the year guiding photography groups around some of the most scenic places our planet has to offer.
Not everyone is as fortunate as you and I. We might not be the wealthiest, we might have our own day to day challenges, but we have safety. It's easy to forget about those who don't.
Until the 15th of October I will be giving 100% of my image sale profits to UNICEF. Every single cent I'm left with after the expenses of printing will go towards helping the refugees, the people in need.
As photographers and photography enthusiasts we do our best to create something unique. To find interesting perspectives and compositions. Finding interesting perspectives might be the biggest challenge with photography. We tend to find a comfort zone and stick to doing what we know works ok. But why settle with just ok? Let's try to be creative and create something better than just ok! Getting into the water might be the little ekstra your image needs.
Last year I discovered the work of Juan Pablo de Miguel. It didn't take me long before I fell in love with his work and I was honoured when my portfolio was featured alongside his in the recent Camerapixio magazine.
Faro de Illa Pancha is a small, scenic lighthouse in Ribadeo, Galicia. Located on the border to Asturias lays this hidden treasure that remains one of the greatest lighthouses I've photographed. The small island, bridge and rough ocean gives a scenery unlike many others.
Being creative is one of the hardest parts with photography. Humans in general are really good at finding excuses not to do something, and photographers are no exception. Both you and me have used the bad weather as an excuse not to go out more than one time. If it’s raining or in general bad weather, I often use this as an excuse and stay inside working on pictures rather than going out taking them.
One of the first photographers I was exposed too when signing up on Instagram years ago was Will Patino. I instantly fell in love with his photography and I'm happy to have witnessed his transformation into a full time professional during this time.
As a passionate traveler I often forget to explore the local landscapes. Instead of looking out my own window, I spend hours upon hours researching locations and daydreaming about traveling to exotic locations. What I tend to forget is the fact that most of the year is spent in my hometown, not in another country.
Reflecting upon my resent journey around North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina, on location often cross my mind. Two weeks of visiting beautiful locations, yet one seems to pop into my mind more often. Botany Bay. The more I think about it, the greater it gets. The most unique beach, an incredible road and thrilling wildlife. Could it be any better?
