Frozen Lapland Photography Tour, Finland 2024

Dates: January 6th - January 12th, 2024

I am limiting this adventure to 6 participants in order to maximize the experience for everyone.

Join me on this unforgettable adventure as we immerse ourselves in the frozen forests of the Finnish Lapland. With its thick blanket of snow, this landscape can only be described as one that belongs on an alien planet.

During the week we will visit some of the most picturesque areas the region has to offer, such as the unique Riisitunturi National Park, Oulanka National Park, and the incredible Kuntivaara fell.

Whether we have snow, clear skies, wind, or clouds, the landscape is as made for photographers. Here we have endless opportunities to create images you’ll cherish for a lifetime.

After photographing for hours in the freezing temperatures it’s great to come back to a nice warm sauna at our accommodation.

Itinerary

There is no fixed itinerary program for this photo tour. The days are short and we make our decisions based on the weather forecast. That being said, our main focus is to photograph the unique Riisitunturi National Park. Spending several days immersed in this stunning scenery allows us to capture unique images in various conditions.

We will also spend a day or two in Oulanka National Park where we visit the famous Myllykoski and Kitka river. The open river is a beautiful contrast to the otherwise white surroundings.

At the end of the week, we will be transported by a snowmobile to the amazing Kuntivaara fell. The landscapes here are similar to Riisitunturi but denser, and more remote. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you’re not going to forget.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • All of ours tours and workshops are open to beginners as well as professionals. Our only criteria is that you have a great passion for photography, and have the energy and motivation to be on the go every day and night.

  • Good outdoor clothing is essential for this trip. Days are short but we are spending a lot of time outside in at times extreme temperatures. This means you’ll need a good merino wool baselayer, a proper midlayer of high quality fleece or similar, and a super warm down jacket/parka and winter pants. Well insulated boots (like Sorel), a balaclava, water resistant gloves, hats, heat packs etc are also highly recommended. We are happy to give more specific recommendations.

  • You can expect temperatures down to -35c when photographing the Finnish Lapland during the winter months. However, temperatures between -15c and -25c are more common. Snow is also to be expected this time of year and, if we’re lucky, we are treated with some nice fog, creating a magical atmosphere.

  • At the very least, bring your own camera, lenses, tripod, and laptop. If you are considering upgrading or investing in new camera gear prior to the trip, feel free to ask us for advice.
