After spending one year in Santander, the northern coast of Spain has grown to be one of my favorite areas to photograph. Each time I visit I drive along the coast and occasionally into the mountains or forests. However, even though most locations are reachable within a few hours driving, Santander have many locations waiting to be photographed. Here's my top 3 photography locations in Santander.
It's easy to forget that the grand landscape is filled with small details. All these details combined is what creates the landscape that makes our jaws drop, yet we rarely pay them any attention. Noticing these scenes opens the door to a completely new world. A world that can be both beautiful and frightening. A world you normally don't notice. Yet a world worth discovering.
Those of you who know me or have been following my work for a while, may know that after living a year in northern Spain, more specific Santander, Cantabria, I have fallen in love with the Spanish coast. Not only because it's summers are significantly warmer then back home in Norway, or the selection of sandy beaches, but also because of it's moody weather, dramatic cliffs and rocky beaches. Here are my top 3 favorite beaches from Asturias and some pictures from them!
One of the locations I was most eager to revisit during my last trip to Spain was the beach of Pendueles located in Asturias. I've been here once before and I fell in love straight away. During my first visit I was treated with some beautiful grey colors.. so this time I was hoping for a little more exciting sunset.
For many people the term "Amazing beach" implies a big sandy beach, clear water and hopefully blue skies. Even though this sounds very tempting and relaxing, an "Amazing beach" for me is quite the opposite. I love dramatic seascapes, where big rocks or cliffs are randomly placed around the coast and the shore is filled with rocks and puddles. If you also like places like this, Playa de Campiecho, located in Asturias, Spain, may be paradise for you too.
Spain isn't only sun, beer and beautiful girls. The winter in Northern Spain consists of a lot of rain, wind and grey. Adding these factors with the dramatic seascapes can create some really moody images!
